About the Editor

Hi, I’m Mercedes, a book lover, editor, writer, and your personal cheerleader. I have a Certificate in Editing from Poynter ACES, and I continue to take courses to further my editing knowledge. I’m also a writer myself, so I understand the process of writing, of getting overwhelmed, and needing a new set of eyes on your work.

As your editor, I want to help give you confidence in both yourself and your story. Writing a book is no small feat! You deserve to be celebrated, and I will be there with my party hat on.  The editing process can seem daunting. As a fellow writer, I understand how vulnerable it can feel to share your work with others for editing and critique. Ultimately, as your editor, I am on your side as your advocate and a source of support. 

Book editing is a collaboration. It is never the editor’s job to change or ‘fix’ your story. Your unique voice and style will be preserved, while I suggest edits that could benefit your readers and make your story a bit more polished. I believe in open and clear communication with my authors, and am flexible with what that may look like for you. 

As a member of these communities, I especially strive to work with marginalized authors, such as authors of color, disabled authors, and queer authors. You all deserve recognition and for your voice to be heard.

My favorite projects to work on are:

I started Nocturne with the idea of keeping my prices as low as possible, to offer authors editing services that might not be feasible otherwise.  Finances should not be a barrier to creativity. If you genuinely cannot afford an editing service, please do not resort to AI or forgo editing. You and your story deserve the best.  If this applies to you, please don't hesitate to get in touch with me, and I will edit your manuscript at no cost.
